UNLOCK YOUR HEARING POTENTIAL
ADVICE FROM OUR AUDIOLOGISTS
WHEN SHOULD I GET A HEARING TEST?
After you have had you ears checked, confirming you're free and clear of earwax, and you have ruled out all other external factors, it is important you have your hearing tested, where a fully qualified audiologist will make an assessment, review the results with you and get to know more about your lifestyle.
Lots of people struggle to get by without a hearing solution, for one reason or another. There's a difference between getting by and quality of life - a hearing aid is designed to help you manage day-to-day and give you back pleasures you're maybe starting to miss. There is also a profound link between hearing issues and dementia.

WHAT HAPPENS AT A HEARING TEST SESSION?
The audiologist will take you to the audiology room, listen to your circumstances and explain the procedure to you. Firstly, they will provide an otoscopy, which is to check that both ears are free of wax. Once the audiologist has established that fact, the audiologist will deliver an audiogram, where the client will be given a set of earphones and ask to press a button every time they hear a tone. The audiogram will go through a comprehensive range of frequencies. At the end of this test, the audiologist will be able to provide you with a clear picture of the condition of your hearing.

HOW MUCH SHOULD A HEARING AID COST?
Fundamentally, a hearing solution must start with a client's budget and what the client requires from the hearing aid. Unlike years ago, when choices were limited, today with major advances in hearing technology, you'll have all kinds of options to suit your prescription, lifestyle and budget. Solutions and technology levels available are priced differently to reflect technology, features and the capabilities incorporated into them. There are also plenty of models to choose from, such as behind-the-ear or in-the-ear receivers. Audio-quality can be experienced by users as the differences in clarity or pixelation of any incoming sound.
Like a car, a best-in-class solution will feature the best use of audio technology with an array of features, such as blue-tooth, style, ear-to-ear wireless, hands-free phone calls, multi-environment settings and battery re-charge times. Then there is a sliding scale of solutions regards audio-quality and features... down to the entry-level model. The entry level model is more or less what you might get from the NHS but with all the rap-around service and support you'd expect from a private care provider.
However, there absolutely is a solution for everyone that will improve their quality of life.

HOW CAN I GET EAR WAX REMOVED?
You can contact your local audiologists, as it is highly likely that they will provide earwax removal services. Importantly, they will advise you to use medical olive oil eardrops for three to five days. It is important not to use eardrops for more than five days, otherwise you will saturate the tissue and end up with a soggy ear. Once you have confirmed to the audiologist that you have applied the eardrops for the necessary time-period, you can attend a session with an audiologist, whether that is in the clinic or a home visit.

WHAT HAPPENS AT AN EAR WAX REMOVAL SESSION?
The audiologist will clearly outline the procedure to you. They will start of with an otoscopy, checking both ears. During this procedure they will enable you to see, using a handheld camera device, the inside of your ear(s). The audiologist will then ask you to fill out a simple healthcare questionnaire before undertaking the earwax removal procedure. The audiologist will inform you, based on your medical history, whether you should go for micro-suction or irrigation. We can also send a letter to your GP, to be kept with your medical records.

WHAT CAN I DO ABOUT TINNITUS?
If you are experiencing buzzing, hissing or ringing in your ears, you may have tinnitus. Tinnitus is the perception of sound in your ears or head, but the noise isn't coming from the outside world. No one who has tinnitus should have to suffer from it. It can come on gradually or over a long period of time. People with hearing loss are more likely to experience tinnitus because losing part of their hearing makes it much more noticeable.
