WHY DO EARS BECOME blocked?
Ear wax is naturally produced by the wax glands located in the outer part of your ear canal.  It protects, and lubricates the skin within your ears.  However, ear wax sometimes builds up excessively and if it does, you may need assistance in having it removed.

For reasons unknown, some people produce more ear wax than others.

Wax can be removed using Water Irrigation or Micro-Suction, and in some cases a combination of both procedures dependant on your medical and ear history.  It should be noted that not all clinical procedures are suitable for all individuals.   At The Hearing Hut, every client will have a full Ear Care Assessment and Video Otoscopy prior to wax removal to determine the most effective method to ensure the ear wax is removed safely.
micro-suction
Micro-suction is fast, effective and is the safest way of removing wax.  No pre-treatment is required and with the aid of a surgical microscope neck loop, the Audiologist can view the structures in your ear canal during the procedure.
This type of procedure is appropriate for all clients.  It is the only procedure available to those clients who have suffered with a perforated eardrum, grommet, mastoid cavity in addition to those who may have a foreign object lodged inside of the ear canal, causing an obstruction, pain and potentially a hearing loss.

Here at the Hearing Hut, we use the Propulse® NG Electronic Ear Irrigator, which ensures our patients' maximum comfort, whilst ensuring care and effective cleansing.  By using the Propulse Ear Irrigator, we may also be able to offer the service in your own home, please contact us for more details.

Often described as a very relaxing procedure.  Wax is removed using an electronic ear irrigation machine which pumps lukewarm water at a constant gentle speed, directed on to the wall of the ear canal. The water rotates along the wall,  penetrating and dislodging the wax build up.   The Noots tank collects  the returning water carrying the wax debris with it.
